MPO MPO Patch Cord

In various environments that require high-speed bandwidth and high-density integrated MPO fiber optic lines, MTP fiber optic have become a must-have transmission medium, especially widely used in developed countries such as Europe and America. MPO fiber optic cable, also known as MTP cable or 40G fiber optic cable. MPO 40G fiber optic cable is mainly suitable for connecting 40G optical modules.

MPO (Multi fiber Push On) is a multi-core fiber optic connector, currently most commonly used in 8-24 core MPO fiber optic cables, with 12 cores being particularly common. MPO fiber optic cables are used in 40/100G systems for connecting internal and external transceiver devices such as SFP, SFP+, QSFP, and FTTX. MPO fiber optic cables are also used in various environments that require high-speed bandwidth and high-density integrated MPO fiber optic lines, especially in developed countries such as Europe and America where they are most widely used.

Advantages of MPO To MPO Cable

  • The construction efficiency of the project is high. MPO cable can achieve multi-core connections, and the modular design of connectors is easy to operate, install, remove, and adjust, saving installation time and indirectly reducing labor costs in data center construction.
  • Small space occupation. The wiring of MPO fiber termination adopts modular connections, which increase the density of fiber optic wiring through patch panels, splicing box, and dedicated installation boards, minimizing the space occupied by wiring.
  • Easy expansion. Expanding cabling can be quickly implemented by adding splicing closures.
  • MTP cable can be selected as ribbon cables or bundle cables, with large capacity, small volume, and low density.
  • The length of MPO fiber can be customized according to customer needs, making it the preferred medium for 40G and 100G transmission.

The Application of MPO Patch Cable

At present, MPO patch cord are mainly used for cabling in data center. With the release of the new Ethernet 40G 100G standard IEEE 802.3ba in June 2010, the high-speed transmission of 40G and 100G relies not only on single-mode transmission using the expensive WDM serial method, but also on OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber multi-channel parallel transmission in the new generation Ethernet 40G 100G standard.

Compared with single-mode WDM serial transmission, the multimode parallel transmission method only accounts for 1/3 and 1/10 of the overall cost of single-mode systems on 40G 100G, indicating that the cost advantage of multimode is very obvious. So currently, MPO fiber cable are mainly used for 40G data center cabling, high-density cabling communication systems, QSFP and other optical modules, and building communication cabling systems.

Structure of MPO Fiber Optic Cable

MTP MPO fiber patch cable consist of MPO connectors and singmode or multimode optical cables. MPO fiber optic connectors include optical fibers, housing, coupling components, metal rings, pins, dust caps, etc., and the pin part is divided into two forms: male and female. The male connector has two guide pins, while the female connector does not. The connection between MPO connectors is precisely aligned through guide pins, and the two MPO connectors connected to each other must be one male and one female.

Polarity Type of MPO Patch Cord

There are mainly 3 types of polarity for MPO MTP truck cables.

  • Type A(straight):The arrangement position of the fiber cores at both ends of the jumper is the same, that is, 1 at one end corresponds to 1 at the other end, and 12 at one end corresponds to 12 at the other end. The orientation of the key keys on both ends is opposite, with key up corresponding to key down.
  • Type B (Reversed): The arrangement of fiber cores at both ends of the MPO patch cord is opposite, with one end’s 1 corresponding to the other end’s 12, and one end’s 12 corresponding to the other end’s 1. The orientation of the key keys on both ends is the same, that is, key up corresponds to key up, and key down corresponds to key down.
  • Type C (Pairs flipped): The  Type C MTP Patch Cord is a pair of adjacent fiber core positions that intersect, where one end of fiber core 1 corresponds to the other end of 2, and one end of fiber core 12 is 11 at the other end. The orientation of the key keys on both ends is also opposite, with key up corresponding to key down.

Precautions For Using MPO Optical Cable

  • 1. Ensure that mtp mtp cable are not knotted, bent, tangled, or subjected to stretching or compression.
  • 2. Regularly inspect fiber optic jumpers for creases and connector damage.
  • 3. Accurate labeling is required on the wiring infrastructure (including wiring panels).
  • 4. Avoid bundling mpo fiber patch cord too tightly.
