Detailed Display of Passive Fiber Optic Splitter 1×8
The metal-like rectangular module in the middle is the core splitting part. Inside, there are precision-fabricated optical components (usually based on planar lightwave circuit-PLC technology for such small-scale splitters). These components guide and split the incoming optical signal. The PLC technology ensures accurate and stable splitting ratios, which is crucial for maintaining consistent signal strength across the eight output channels.
There is one input fiber (with a green connector). This fiber brings the incoming optical signal from the upstream network element. By the way, it also has eight output fibers, each terminated with a green connector. These connectors are usually of a standard type, like SC/APC (the green color and the beveled end of the connector suggest an Angled Physical Contact-APC polishing, which helps reduce back-reflection, a common requirement in PON applications). The output fibers carry the split optical signals to downstream devices, such as optical network units in a PON.
The optical fibers are typically made of silica glass, with a protective coating (the white outer layer in the pictures). This coating protects the fragile glass fiber inside from physical damage, bending-induced losses, and environmental factors like moisture and dust.
The splitter is packaged in a transparent plastic blister pack. It protects the splitter and its components from physical damage during transportation and storage. The rigid plastic shell can prevent external impacts, and the transparent nature allows for easy visual inspection of the product without opening the package. Inside the package, there is a piece of documentation (the paper with tables). This documentation typically contains important information of the products.
