Generally, APC and UPC connectors are compatible, the identical keying notches indicate that the design considered mixed connections, that will result in a signal loss of approximately 3 dBm. If the signal after mixing is within -25 dBm, there is no need for an adapter. This characteristic can also be used to solve the problem of excessively strong fiber optic signals.
