It is a 1×16 splitter, meaning it can split one input optical signal into 16 output optical signals. The connectors are SC (Subscriber Connector) type. This is a key component in passive optical networks (PONs), enabling the distribution of a single optical signal from a central office or head-end to 16 different subscriber or device endpoints.
Inside the LGX housing, there is a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) splitter.
