LC Connector

The LC fiber optic patch cord use a miniaturized (SFF) connector, which is an ideal choice for high-density application. The plug of this LC fiber optic connector is made of zirconia ceramic material with a diameter of only 1.25 mm. The end face of the lc fiber connector is available in two types: PC and APC. Due to its high-precision installation, it has the lowest insertion loss and return loss.

SC Connectors

SC fiber optic jumper is one of the early and widely used fiber patch cords. It is not only convenient to use but also low-cost, making it one of the cheapest patch cords. The plastic shell of SC connector is rectangular. The size and structure of the ceramic ferrules used in the zirconia coupling sleeve are exactly the same as those of the FC connector, and the end faces of the ferrule are APC or UPC; SC fiber optic connector is easy to plug and unplug, and the fastening method is to use a plug and unplug key type, which does not require rotation. It has high compressive strength, high installation density, and small insertion loss fluctuations. SC fiber connector can be connected in a duplex form. Widely used in fiber optic communication networks.

FC Patch Cords

FC patch cord is one of the early and widely used fiber jumper. FC FC patch cordis not only convenient to use but also cost-effective, and is one of the commonly used fiber optic patch cables. The end faces of the ferrule are mostly APC and UPC; The fastening method is to use a metal circular thread rotating locking structure. FC connector is easy to plug and unplug, with high installation density, but cannot be connected in a dual form. It has low insertion loss fluctuations and high compressive strength, and is widely used in optical communication networks.

ST Patch Cord

The ST fiber patch cord is suitable for both single mode and multi-mode fibers. ST connector adopts a metal circular bayonet rotating locking structure, with a long floating spring sleeve built-in to fix the fiber. It also uses high-precision ceramic ferrule, with excellent return loss insertion performance and convenient and fast use. This ST patch cord is one of the older generation fiber optic cords, but it has been widely used in multimode networks, including building and campus LANs.

What is optical fiber connector?

Optical fiber connector is a physical interface used to connect fiber optic cables. What is FC PC connector?

FC stands for Ferrule connector, and PC short for physical contact, which is polishing method of the ferrule end face. We can describe it FC PC or FC/PC, FC-PC as well. When docking, both ends of the adapter must have the same FC/PC connector, not FC/APC and FC/PC nor FC/PC and SC/PC, as this will result in docking failure and transmission interruption.

How to choose a fiber connector?

When choosing a fiber connector, we must consider what upstream and downstream products it will interface with, as well as its application scenarios. Such as FTTH networks, at present, most of the fiber optic device and distribution box or ftth enclosures are only with SC ports, that means we can only use SC connectors or LC duplex connectors as well, if customer only have FC or ST connectors, it can not be used. Only if you can change the FC ST round shape port to the same as SC square ports.  But in the data center, all the equipment or OLT side are LC interface, so we must configure lc connectors.

What is the most commonly used fiber connectors?

 How to connect fiber optic cable to connector?

 If need a fiber optic connectors, that means it is end termination, so there are mainly 3 ways to cable termination:

The first method is to connect fiber optic cable with connectors in the factory and prefabricate it into fiber optic jumpers, which requires details such as cable length, fiber type, connector type, cable type, etc. But on-site construction docking can be simple use, no need special tools, fast and convenient. Most of cable can be used, not limited.

The second method is to add fiber optic cable with fiber optic fast connectors on site, which is flexible to operate and can freely cut the length of the optical cable, and the most popular cable are drop cable 2x3mm, 2×1.6mm or 2mm 3mm, other type of cable can not be used due to the fast connectors now on market only such diameters available.

The third method is hot melt by fusion splicer. Currently, China Telecom basically operates in this way. The worker will cut off the fiber patch cord into 2pcs fiber optic pigtails on site, use fusion splicer to fuse the optical fiber pigtail together with the reserved optical fiber. Then there is a fiber optic interface to connect with the router or optical network unit for ftth use. This way will need equipment like fusion splicer, cable stripper, fiber clever, alcohol, dust-free papers, etc. It takes long time on site, and need protect the fiber joint with heat shrink sleeve or enclosures as well.
